[Video] BMW iX3 is WhatCar?’s Best Large Electric SUV

In some areas of the world, the new all-electric BMW iX3 is already gaining some awards. This is a good record even though its sales have not yet officially started anyplace else than in China. As for the What Car? magazine in the United Kingdom, the BMW iX3 is 2021’s Best Large Electric SUV. This award proves the worth of this iX3 and is a remarkable win for a car that is still arriving in most European countries. BMW offers the new iX3 as its second all-electric model.

Unlike Stuttgart’s EQC and Ingolstadt’s e-Tron, the BMW iX3 from Munich feels a lot more like the car it is derived from. The primary differences are evident from outside, especially when you find the hints of the X3 all over. The side profile of the iX3 shows aero-optimized wheels, while its front-end design gains a more aerodynamic approach. Rather than using blue-accent tailpipe replacements, the rear-end does not have tailpipes anymore.

According to What Car? magazine, the iX3 earns the award because of its roomy interior and boot space. Its excellent steering and comfortable ride also match its capability to reach a range of 279 miles. However, this range is just a claimed one based on WLTP testing. The results may still vary depending on several factors. The load, weather, and how you drive the iX3 may change the outcome.

Although the Jaguar i-Pace is faster and more powerful, What Car? claims that the BMW iX3 is more pleasurable to drive. Its affordability as an electric car is also a good point such as how it goes with the Taycan. In the video, the team delivers us a lot of notes to take note if we would consider the iX3. Its overall good feeling for the driver, its composed ride and strong but not extravagant performance are all facts.

Assembled in a central housing, the BMW iX3 offers power electronics, an electric motor and a transmission. Located on the rear axle, its electric motor generates a maximum output of 286 hp and 400 Nm of torque. Thus, a 6.8 seconds acceleration from 0-100 km/h is effortless for this SUV and with a limited top speed of 112 mph. An 80 kWh 400V lithium-ion battery is also linked to the motor of the 2021 BMW iX3.
