Witnessing the Touring models will lead you into the best companion for your daily ride – the new BMW M340i. While it gives a lot of comforts, it’s also competent on a track. In fact, its speed replicates that of the F80 M3. Not only that, BMW also markets the M340i Touring directly from its factory. And this has never been the case for the F80 M3. However, some ask what if it was also the same for the latter.
Well, the good news is some car enthusiasts have already thought of this. An F80 generation gain an M3 Touring character through an F80 M3 sedan and a BMW 320d. To check out which is faster, this video from CarWow highlights a drag race between the two.
It cannot be denied that it was not a fair test between the two vehicles. Compared to the standard M3, the F80 “M3” has definitely more power. It churns out 540 hp and 501 Nm of torque and is also tuned by Evolve. As for the BMW M340i Touring, it only produces 374 hp (Euro-spec) and 369 Nm of torque. On the other hand, the M340i gets an all-wheel-drive system while the engineered M3 is rear-wheel drive. At the outset, the F80 M3 is famously challenging to put the power down. And with all of its excess power, it might be difficult to launch this car.
However, this video shows a lot of interesting results. For instance, the engineered M3 was able to have a good start and even without much spinning of its wheels. An instant lead shows up with the M340i Touring as it launched harder than its opponent. Faster than the two rear wheels of the M3, the M340i’s all-wheel-drive clutch just sets off the car easily. However, due to its extra power, the M3 eventually took the lead and won. Still, the BMW M340i Touring provides a shocking capability as a weapon for competitions such as this. In reality, though, the M340i Touring is quicker.
