[VIDEO] The Refreshed 2023 BMW M340d: Lower, Faster, and More Powerful

BMW is one of the few automakers to provide a diesel sedan focused on performance with the M340d. The mild hybrid configuration for the B57 engine was included with the Life Cycle Impulse when it was first announced last year. However, the output was the same. The 3.0-litre inline-six engine continues to produce 340 horsepower and a respectable 700 Nm (516 lb-ft). And in theory, thanks to 48V technology, it ought to have somewhat improved fuel economy.

The M340d often goes unnoticed as a primarily European product compared to the globally available M340i. This time, a British tuning shop, Motech Performance, has brought it to the forefront with its latest video. Featuring a Portimao Blue M340d, the car has undergone a significant transformation. It’s now flaunting a more aggressive stance by adding the 50 Years of M anniversary emblem.

The Eibach aftermarket suspension lowering package has lowered the BMW M340d xDrive’s ride height by 20 to 25 mm. It significantly improves the side profile. BMW plans to upgrade the 19-inch wheels (792 M type) with a new set. The car’s handling and aesthetics have improved thanks to the firmer suspension modification. It’s worth mentioning that the car already features factory-installed adaptive dampers.

The diesel-powered M Performance 3 Series will get two AC Schnitzer spoilers, one for the hood and the other for the trunk lid. To enhance the M340d’s aggressive look, a front splitter and substantial side skirts from German tuner AC Schnitzer will be added. Motech Performance is still determining whether the new components will blend in.

Some of you may remember that there had been rumours that BMW was discontinuing the M340d with the LCI. When the facelifted 3 Series continued to offer the M340d in 2022, the German luxury brand showed our rapid denial of those reports to be accurate. A sedan and a wagon are available in the diesel performance variant, with the latter expected to be the more common body type.
