The BMW G30 5 Series production has started in Austria. The new production home will be at Magna Steyr in Graz. The decision to move the production here was driven by the fact that the Dingolfing factory cannot handle the volume needed for this best-selling, new business athlete.
The production in Magna Steir has officially started on March 1, 2017. The very forts one was a BMW 520d with M Sport Package in Alpine White.
The Austrians take pride that the B47 engine is also a real Austrian under the hood of the first BMW 5 Series. This engine is produced in Austria as well, just like most of BMW’s engines.
The plant’s location is mostly dedicated to manufacturing engines for BMW. In fact, there are 1.26 million engines produced here for BMW and MINI in 2016.
The BMW 5 Series is only the fourth BMW car to be built in Magna Steyr, following suit after the first X3 generation and the MINI Countryman and Paceman. Since 2003, the plant has already built more than 1.2 million vehicles for the BMW Group.
Chris Collet (CEO of BMW Austria GmbH): “The BMW 5 Series represents the modern business giant of today. Comprehensive networking, intelligent driver assistance systems, an intuitive control system and highly efficient engines are the ideal conditions for driving the latest state of the art. Through the production in Austria the BMW 5 is the most important car in and for Austria.â€
