2024 BMW 5 Series: M Sport Elegance in Black

BMW enthusiasts have a myriad of ways to personalize the new 5 Series Sedan, with the G60 emerging as a standout choice. Recently, in Italy, BMW captured this model’s essence in a photoshoot, spotlighting the 520d xDrive adorned in Tanzanite Blue Metallic. This variant boasts numerous Shadowline enhancements, BMW’s terminology for chic black accents. This also includes an illuminated kidney grille and a sleek trunk lid spoiler.

Additionally, this premium luxury sedan offers optional 20-inch M alloys. It features a two-tone look and red brake callipers for M Sport brakes. Despite the diminishing demand for diesel, BMW highlights a diesel model in 2023. This acknowledges its continued relevance in the European market.

BMW’s diesel lineup for the 5 Series currently includes the 520d and the all-wheel-drive 520d xDrive, with a six-cylinder variant slated for release in 2024. The existing four-cylinder engine, delivering 197 horsepower and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque, sufficiently meets the needs of most drivers. Furthermore, this mild hybrid diesel engine pairs with an eight-speed Steptronic automatic transmission to smoothly channel power to the road.

For those interested in a substantial diesel vehicle, the performance is impressively adequate. The rear-wheel-drive variant achieves 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 7.3 seconds, topping out at 145 mph (233 km/h). The xDrive model, though slightly slower at a top speed of 142 mph (228 km/h), matches this acceleration. Notably, the 520d xDrive weighs 1,830 kilograms (4,034 pounds) without a driver, marking an increase in weight for this eighth-generation model. It’s approximately 100 kg (220 lbs) heavier than its predecessor, the G30 facelift.

If you haven’t encountered the latest 5 Series, the G60, in person, it’s worth noting its significant size increase. Official photos don’t quite capture how much this Mercedes E-Class competitor has grown. Measuring 5060 mm in length and 1900 mm in width, it’s nearly as large as the 7 Series F01.
