The D5S is ALPINA’s equivalent to the 5 Series, which now features the same revised face. It adds slightly redesigned taillights, an updated kidney grille, and sharper headlights. The ALPINA D5S Sedan and D5S Touring are the stars of this new photoshoot from the Salzburgring.
Both cars have the same traditional ALPINA wheels, rear bumper with quad exhausts outlets and lower front lip in ALPINA-specific design components. Nevertheless, these two cars both look stunning despite how predictable their looks are. Both D5S models are the most striking versions of the 5 Series.
The ALPINA D5S resembles the looks and feels of a high-end 5 Series on the interior. Its steering wheel is stitched in ALPINA colours, the seats are still nice, and the wood trim is ALPINA-specific and good-looking. Several plaques are visible inside the cabin to remind passengers that they are in something more exceptional than a conventional 5 Series.Â
However, the ALPINA D5S has a significant enhancement over the previous 5 Series in terms of engines. An improved version of BMW’s tri-turbocharged 3.0-litre straight-six diesel engine powers the D5S. As a result, it can now generate 408 horsepower and 800 Nm of torque. It also includes a four-wheel steering, an ALPINA-tuned eight-speed automatic transmission, and an all-wheel-drive system. To provide sportier handling, ALPINA also added an extra negative camber to both front and rear axles and tuned the suspension.
The ALPINA D5S is possibly the best of the ultra-fast diesel sedans on the market. This high-performance sedan is difficult to surpass as it has a combination of dynamic handling, cool aesthetics, high-end comfort and powerful speed. It’s a unique vehicle when you add in the fact that it’s an ALPINA.
