[VIDEO] 2024 BMW 520i: 5 Series Base Model Up Close

Whether it’s a BMW, Lamborghini, or Dacia, almost all automakers love to showcase their newest vehicles at the pinnacle of refinement. That makes sense because an automobile usually looks its finest when configured in its most expensive way. When the eighth-generation 5 Series was introduced earlier this year, the Munich-based company highlighted the i5 M60.

But what about the more budget-friendly options? Most buyers gravitate towards the more affordable variants. We’ve met the i5 eDrive40 and 530e, yet this video focuses on the most wallet-friendly 5er available. Sort of. While it’s an entry-level 520i, it doesn’t skimp on the add-ons. Step into the world of the rear-wheel-drive 5 Series petrol model in the latest walkaround video. It’s embellished with the M Sport Package and adorned in a distinct Tanzanite Blue Metallic coat.

The 2024 520i touts a turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engine, unavailable in the US, where the range kicks off with the 530i. This 520i elevates its 190 horsepower and 310 Newton-meters of torque with a mild hybrid system, adding 18 electric horses and 200 Nm of punch. Working through an eight-speed automatic gearbox, it hits 60 mph from a standstill in just 7.5 seconds, reaching a peak speed of 143 mph.

While many are steering away from diesel, the 520d holds firm, particularly in diesel-favouring European regions. Keep an eye out in 2024, as a six-cylinder diesel variant joins the lineup.
