The BMW 540d is one of the new 5ers that gains interesting upgrades for its engines. It’s a recent trend for the brand when it comes to jumping on the dyno and displaying better numbers than its professed figures. The newest versions gain these improvements ever since the era of turbocharged engines have emerged.
With the aim of reducing emissions all the more, almost every 5 Series model is now a mild hybrid. Most of these 5ers will gain a small electric starter-generator that acquires some functions. One of these cars includes the BMW 540d. Rated at 340 horsepower and 700 Nm of torque, the fine-tuned version of the B57 bi-turbo engine may now gain a similar size of a 3-liter straight six-engine that brings more power.
In this video, the team from RaceChip gives an upgrade for the BMW 540d. The team also finds out that BMW provided conservative claims for its engine capacity. With 350 horsepower and 700 Nm of torque, the team’s dyno showed that the 540d has this capacity. A sure advantage for its owner even though the difference to other models is slightly less.
The tuning for the BMW 540d became a challenge for RaceChip. The reason involves the newly integrated safety features made by BMW and some changes to its software and hardware. As a result, the upgrade reaches 380 horsepower and 745 Nm of torque. The video proves that this non-radical increase to its performance can already make that great difference.
