[Video] Sport Auto Team Tests the BMW M850i on the Track

Is BMW M850i Coupe better than the other pure M models? This is the enduring question ever since BMW revealed this model. It is indeed a good question since it carries the revolutionary 530 horsepower 4.4-litre V8 twin-turbo engine under its hood. As for the answer, obviously, it all depends on how you would want to use the M580i. It would be worth the extra cash if you plan to ride on the track. But if you plan to take advantage of it just behind the wheel, then the BMW 850i would be highly satisfactory.

In this video, Uwe Sener from Sport Auto tested the speed of the M850i on the Hockenheim-GP track. Without any exaggeration, the result is quite captivating. However you look at it, the BMW M850i gains a 1:57.00 lap time. Also, this performance was given by the M850i while in slightly cold conditions and as it rides on the Bridgestone Potenza S007.

Having said that, we can calculate that its lap time can be 1:55.00 if those wheels would be replaced with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S. Nevertheless, the BMW M850i shows a quicker performance when compared with other remarkable cars. These remarkable cars include the well-liked BMW M2 Competition, the Lamborghini Urus, the BMW X6 M Competition, and the Audi RS7 Sportback. But, another question lingers – which is faster, the BMW M8 or the latest M850i?

Prior this year, the M8 Competition already gained its own test and on the same track as well. While riding on Pirelli P Zero, the M8 Competition did the same lap in 1:53.1. In between these two cars, therefore, there is approximately 4-second difference. So obviously, the M8 is faster than the M850i. But as mentioned earlier, we won’t mind this little difference if we aim for practicality of our everyday journey, right?
