There are some discussions made that the better looking 8er of the two is the original E31-generation BMW 8 Series. Being more iconic, its design will surely be hard to forget for decades to come while the current one might be forgotten over the years knowing that it might only have a short lifespan. Inspired by the original iconic design, enthusiasts have reimagined and started to create its modern interpretation today.
Thanks to this new design renders, we at least get to see what a reimagined E31 BMW 8 Series might be like if it were made today; which came out to be a really interesting design. Capturing a lot of the original car’s wedge styling, its sharp nose and short rear deck. The design was quite intriguing for getting a bit of Lexus LC500 vibe, which is not bad at all as it is a gorgeous car, but seeing how the BMW’s design language change over the years was really interesting.
Certain elements come a bit experimental, though. For instance, the floating effect on the C-pillar, which as we’ve seen on the V16-powered 7 Series Goldfisch, was designed to provide rear cooling ducts. However, we can’t know for sure if this car has a V16 up front. Still featuring BMW’s massive kidney grilles though not as absurdly enormous as the current. This render could have easily left out BMW’s most outrageous design, but it’s amusing to see as well.
Besides the overall shape, what I really like about this render are its very coll ALPINA-style wheel design. Its wedgy-styling sure made the original 8er so fascinating and appealing. Although a bit generic, this new 8 Series is a good looking car. Funny enough, it sort of looks like the current Mustang, which is another good looking car. This render deliberately reminded us that the original 8 Series stood out among the crowd.
