Specific BMW i4, iX, and i7 cars are now being recalled due to an electrical issue that might result in complete power loss while driving. The likelihood of a crash increases if something takes place.
According to BMW North America, monitoring the high-voltage battery charging process may be disrupted due to a software fault. This could result in stalling, a break in high-voltage battery charging, or a momentary loss of power while driving.
This recall affects 14,086 vehicles in total, and by February 10, all impacted owners will be informed of a fix. A free software update at a licensed BMW dealer will solve the problem. Owners are not instructed to take any action in the interim.
If owners encounter this issue and the vehicle does lose drive power, restarting the vehicle resolves the issue. Although it could return, a restart fixes the problem. That’s not how you want to “fix” the issue because it only postpones what will eventually happen. While BMW is rolling out a software remedy, a simple reset will work.
Since the BMW i4’s debut only a year ago, three recalls have occurred. One of the other recalls was a potential electrical problem that could result in a fire. Due to the threat, BMW advised customers against parking their vehicles in garages or close to homes. BMW is now claiming that the vehicle might lose drive power while in motion, which can result in an accident. The BMW i7, however, has never before been subject to a recall.
