We already know BMW is working hard on electrifying their vehicles, and that includes the M division. Don’t expect to see an M3 with an electric motor soon, but the development crew is definitely playing around with electrification.
As BMW M Vice President, Dirk Hacker, said, “We cannot avoid the need for electrification and it is true that we are working on hybrid power already. For now, all I will say is that we are working on a very precise technical solution, but there is no final decision on how to deploy the concept.”
And if you’re among the hardcore enthusiasts who get upset by such news, remember that all great revolutions were not accepted instantly in the past. For example, not all loved the new twin-scroll turbocharged engine in the 1 Series M, but the model eventually became one of the best M cars in history.
We’ll see what the future has to bring in the years to come.
