BMW M Motorsport’s latest entry-level racing car, the BMW M2 Racing, made its highly anticipated debut this weekend with appearances at two key events. Fans first saw the car’s striking new design at the DTM season finale in Hockenheim. In contrast, the car took its first competitive test simultaneously during the Nürburgring Endurance Series (NLS) on the legendary Nordschleife. This marked an important milestone in the development of the BMW M2 Racing as it prepares for future races starting in 2026.
The BMW M2 Racing, based on the production model BMW M2, has been specially modified to meet the demands of entry-level racing. While specific technical details will remain under wraps until 2025, the car is designed with affordability, reliability, and cutting-edge performance. Fans at Hockenheim were also treated to the car’s playful “Easter Eggs” within the design, with outlines of famous racetracks cleverly hidden for them to discover.
In its first real test, the BMW M2 Racing took on the Nordschleife in the iconic Nürburgring, affectionately called the “Green Hell.” The car, driven by BMW’s drivers Max Hesse and Jens Klingmann, completed a four-hour endurance race without any significant issues. The FK Performance Motorsport Team fielded the car, which handled the challenges of mixed weather conditions exceptionally well, providing invaluable data for future improvements.
BMW M Motorsport is committed to refining the M2 Racing throughout 2025, with further testing planned. The aim is to ensure that by the 2026 season, the car will be optimised for performance and accessibility for entry-level teams. With a strong debut and plenty of data to analyse, BMW Motorsport is confident that the M2 Racing will be a solid contender on the track.
