BMW’s M2 G87 Clocks in 10,000 Production Units

BMW’s first M2 (F87) sold around 60,000 units. The second generation is showing strong initial sales. Data from INEGI reveals the exact G87 units made in Mexico from January to July 2023, as deciphered by a Bimmer Post forum member.

8,854 units were made from January to July, with August projecting 1,665 more. This totals 10,519 vehicles, impressive for the new M2. The INEGI’s January 2023 figure 3,656 includes cars from the M2’s debut. BMW San Louis Potosi built 303 vehicles in December 2022.

Insiders say the G87 will be made in late 2029, giving the current M2 a chance to outperform its predecessor. Despite its debated design, purists might prefer this rear-wheel-drive sports coupe. It’s the last non-hybrid M and the final M model offering a manual gearbox without electrification.

BMW plans to add a powerful CS variant to the M2 lineup 2025, boasting over 500 horsepower but lacking a clutch pedal. Rumours suggest an xDrive version might launch later this decade, enhancing its appeal. Fresh colours, possibly available by 2024, should attract more buyers.

BMW will produce future M2 variants in Mexico, having moved its smallest M car’s production from Leipzig to San Luis Potosi for its second generation.
