[Video] Advanced iDrive Screen for the F80 BMW M3

Having a shabbier technology, like an old or traditional iDrive screen, is one of the misadventures when purchasing an older vehicle. On top of that, it might also be challenging to go after this set of cars after spotting some of the new technology that the latest BMW cars have today. However, achieving the latest tech of today’s BMW cars into an older car is already possible. This video, for instance, will show you how an F80 BMW M3 got that advanced technology for its iDrive screen.

In the video, a larger iDrive screen spotted in fresher BMWs replaced the F80 BMW M3’s standard iDrive screen. Accordingly, the replaced screen was a factory BMW piece. It was not one of those aftermarket pieces that have unconvincing quality or authenticity. Therefore, it will look fully integrated into the car as if it really belonged there. The upgraded iDrive screen also adds touch-capability to the F80 BMW M3. This feature is not available for the original screen of F80 M3, thus emphasizing this feature of the car.

In order to effectively install the new screen, you need to physically customize it. Accordingly, the process was a bit dangerous. This is because its plastic housing and brackets are slightly too big for the car’s features. Therefore, fitting it properly requires for the new screen to be slightly cut back. Now, this step might give some car owners that slight stress. Not only will there be a possibility to break the new screen, but its price is also not that cheap. Having said that, it will be almost ready-to-use once the installation is finally complete.

Before plugging the installed screen back in, you need to adjust the code of the car. Considering that OBD coders are easier-to-use and more common today, this is already a hassle-free step. To follow through, you need to plug the OBD coder into its port and link it with your phone. It will then lead you into choosing your preferences on the technology device. Every step for this can be found in the video.

You’ll know it’s done when you plug the screen in and turn the car and see it functioning. Not only will it look better on your F80 BMW M3, but it will also give you that larger iDrive screen. However, one should take note that cars out of warranty are the only ones capable of doing this revamp. You will certainly void your factory warranty if you replaced your iDrive screen. However, you can pursue this if your F80 BMW M3 is already not under any warrant.
