[VIDEO] BMW M3 Touring Gets Sleek Carbon Roof Upgrade

BMW aimed to mirror the M3 G81 with the G80 sedan. Yet, something’s amiss. The M3’s debut Touring model lacks a carbon fibre roof. Why? After its June 2022 release, many enthusiasts asked the M division about the missing lightweight panel.

The Munich plant making M3s could’ve retooled. However, BMW M anticipated a niche demand for the vehicle. They were wrong. Production has since doubled or even tripled due to high demand. Though the G81 lacks a factory carbon roof, R44 Performance offers one.

The M3 Touring is prepped for this year’s SEMA show, set for October 31 to November 3 in the U.S. Sadly; the M3 Touring isn’t sold here due to high homologation fees. It boasts a low ride with Vossen wheels, EBC brakes, a khaki green wrap, a bold body kit, and yellow daytime lights like the M3 CS and M4 CSL. Yet, its roof truly stands out.

You’ve seen modified BMW M cars, but how often is the roof removed? R44 Performance and Alpha N provided the shiny carbon panel, and IND Distribution installed it. The panels reveal lines mimicking the M3 G80’s roof. The time-lapse video showcases the detailed work of the roof replacement.

There’s a buzz that BMW is testing an M3 CS Touring. However, it’s not greenlit for production. If approved, a carbon roof would likely be a quick addition.
