BMW M4 Competition xDrive All-Wheel Drive’s Test Run

The purists of the BMW M4 Competition xDrive remind me a lot of the unexpected turn Leslie Neilson’s acting career turned to comedy. It’s impressive how Neilson managed to become one of the most iconic comedic actors of all time. Despite the mockery of dramatic film snobs. On the other hand, the xDrive and Neilson are excellent enough to persuade purists.

Testing the BMW M4 Competition xDrive’s all-wheel drive

Compared to a standard M4 Competition, the M4 xDrive has no limits. Even on dry tarmac, the 3.0-litre twin-turbo I6 with 503 hp and 479lb-ft of torque overwhelms the standard M4’s rear tires. While the xDrive is currently called a four-season sports car. Due to the fact that it’s more efficient in wet and cold conditions.

The M4 is really fun to drive at high speed. At full speed and in third gear, the M3 and M4 are still capable of spinning the rear wheels. While M4 xDrive also has finer starting control, it can start in first gear. On the other hand, the rear-wheel drive starts in second gear because it can not cope in first gear. In addition, 2WD mode can disengage the front axle and turn back the xDrive into a normal M4.

The extra front driveshafts and driven front wheels worried BMW car fans that this could ruin the M4’s steering. Nevertheless, the steering of both the BMW M4 xDrive and the rear-wheel drive is precise. Its hyper-reactive input gives almost no steering feel. Overall, even with the xDrive still doing everything right, the model feels like a rear-wheel drive car most of the time.

No one will ever know if it’s an xDrive vehicle because BMW does not put the XDrive badges on the back of the car.

As for the price, the BMW M4 Competition xDrive costs $78,800, while the standard M4 costs $74,700. The few thousand dollars more are undoubtedly worth the deal. That said, there’s no reason to be put off by its idea. All in all, the BMW M4 Competition is simply better than its rear-wheel drive model, making it a brilliant all-rounder sports car.
