BMW M5 Owners Rarely Push Their Cars to the Track

Despite the BMW M5’s track-ready design, only a small fraction of owners ever push their cars to the limit on a race track, with even fewer making it a regular activity. This revelation comes from BMW M5 product manager Daniela Schmid, who noted that while the M5 is engineered to excel on circuits, most buyers never fully utilize this capability.

Schmid explained that the M5’s dual nature—capable on both the track and everyday roads—remains a key focus in its design. However, the majority of M5 owners, typically middle-aged men with a history of owning M models, opt for comfort and performance in daily driving rather than track days.

Interestingly, the M5 customer base is evolving, with younger buyers, particularly from Asian markets, increasingly drawn to the brand. These younger enthusiasts, often affluent tech professionals, have discovered the M series during their travels to the US or Europe and are eager to bring that experience home. Despite this shift, most of its owners have untapped the M5’s full potential.
