BMW M5 Reinvents Hybrid Power with a Bold New Drive

The 2025 BMW M5 raises the stakes again, blending powerful hybrid technology with its iconic performance capabilities. This latest model, expanded in every dimension, now offers a plug-in hybrid setup that delivers an impressive 717 horsepower and around 25 miles of electric-only range, balancing thrilling speed with eco-friendly elements. It’s 4.2 inches longer, 2.7 inches wider, and 1.4 inches taller than its predecessor, a testament to BMW’s approach to redefining performance in this generation.

The heart of this powerhouse combines a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 producing 577 horsepower with an electric motor that alone churns out 194 horsepower and up to 332 pound-feet of torque. Together, they seamlessly blend power and responsiveness, providing drivers the choice between all-electric and hybrid modes for both efficiency and exhilaration. This motor is backed by a 14.8-kWh battery, designed for smoother transitions and instant power delivery, whether cruising in Comfort mode or tearing up the road in Sport Plus.

BMW’s M xDrive all-wheel-drive system enhances driving dynamics using a transfer case that adapts to handle the hybrid’s added torque. Whether in 4WD, 4WD Sport, or even a 2WD mode when stability controls are off, the M5 combines stability with the raw thrill of rear-wheel dominance, especially when tackling twists and turns.

This M5 isn’t just about power; its chassis and suspension bring both grip and comfort to the forefront. Adaptive dampers, rear steering, and reinforced undercarriage elements provide precision in corners without sacrificing ride quality. The Michelin Pilot Sport S5 tyres, 10 mm wider than before, keep the car planted and agile, letting it mask its 5,390-pound curb weight—a result of BMW’s thoughtful battery placement that keeps the centre of gravity low.

Inside, the M5 showcases a nearly seamless display that merges a 12.3-inch driver’s display with a 14.9-inch infotainment screen, creating an immersive experience. Although the layered controls may require a learning curve, the payoff is a car that, once mastered, transforms every drive. The 2025 BMW M5 is a compelling mix of power, sophistication, and advanced tech, staying true to its legacy while embracing a new future.
