The BMW M5 never had a more extreme version over its years of existence. This fact makes the M5 CS an unusual decision for the luxury carmaker. Still, the upcoming BMW M5 CS comes as a surprisingly tempting upgrade.
Unlike the M3 that had many extreme versions over the years, the M5 never had any. Therefore, the appearance of the BMW M5 CS looks unusual to many. But the fact that it will become the most powerful M5 still sounds exciting. Also, it will weigh the lightest among the F90 generation.
Even though it will use the same engine as the standard M5, it will generate more power. The 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 will produce 626 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque for the M5 CS. The BMW M5 CS also comes as a lightweight with 154 lbs (70 kg) off its overall weight.Â
BMW reduced the M5 CS’s weight with the new lightweight wheels and carbon-fiber bucket seats. The new wheels also help in reducing the unsprung mass. And the new seats help in lowering the center of gravity. Fitted with the new wheels, the BMW M5 CS would feel sharper than the current standard M5.
Still, fans wonder if the new M5 CS will let some of M5’s comfort and luxury features go. Based on the M2 CS, we expect some tweaks for the M5 CS. For example, reducing the sound tuning materials or removing the center console. If this happens, the M5 CS may have less comfort and luxury on its character. And this will make it more unusual.
The BMW M5 perfectly blends the characters of a luxury sedan and a strikingly fast car. But it also secures a comfortable everyday drive as a priority. Therefore, if the M5 CS loses the comfort or luxury point, it might become a pointless venture. Without its M5 luxury image, buyers can get the M2 CS instead of the M5 CS.
Nevertheless, we do not close the possibility of BMW surprising us with what they can do. BMW might create just the right M5 CS – extreme but not too hardcore to lose its luxury. The BMW M made it possible with the M2 CS, so they might do it again with the M5 CS.
