[Video] BMW M5 CS Prototype takes hot laps on the Lausitzring

The sharpest prototype of the upcoming BMW M5 CS takes some hot laps on the Lausitzring. The M Division decides to surprise everyone with its quick performance although it is still in its prototype phase. In fact, the engineers in Garsching are still working on its fine tuning.

Everyone knows how fast a standard BMW M5 is especially with its full-throttle acceleration. However, there are also some downsides to it. This includes its quite substandard cabin and how it is still a heavy sedan. That’s why you will never anticipate this car to sprint any faster than a track-ready, purpose-built sports car. But the BMW M5 CS prototype proves you wrong as it laps the Lausitzring. The video shows how it can run faster than the 991-generation Porsche 911 GT3.

AutoBild’s Guido Naumann records the impressive lap time of the BMW M5 CS with 1:31.88. The M5 CS is quite faster than the Porsche 911 GT3’s 1:32.00. Accordingly, the driver, the choice and condition of the tires, and the weather conditions have greatly changed the results of the made comparison. With this fraction of a second difference, we cannot prove that eh M5 CS is indeed faster than the 911 GT3. However, it’s still a fact that this leather-lined, two-ton sedan can really gain that great achievement on track.

Sport Auto’s comprehensive back catalog of track times also shows that the BMW M5 CS can fly faster than other sports car. This includes the Jaguar Project 8 and Audi R8 V10 Performance. The M5 CS proves its capabilities as it performs the right way. Thanks to its sharpened chassis and reduced weight, the M5 CS’ big power is properly supported. While the standard M5 Competition produces 617 hp, this new BMW M5 CS is rumored to have around 626 hp. Indeed, this is a very thrilling journey of waiting for the brand new M5 CS.
