BMW is reportedly bidding goodbye to the BMW M8 Coupe next year, marking the end of an era for the high-performance luxury model. This decision follows a broader trend in the automotive industry, where large luxury coupes and convertibles have seen declining popularity. Much like Mercedes’ move to discontinue its S-Class Coupe and Cabriolet, BMW seems to streamline its lineup by phasing out the 8-Series Coupe and Convertible models.

According to a dealer bulletin cited by BMW Blog, production of the M8 Coupe will cease early in 2025. New orders for the model are no longer being accepted, with current production schedules wrapping up units already in the pipeline. Reports indicate that vehicles in specific production stages by late December will still be completed within a short window, after which the model will officially be retired. The M8 Coupe is also expected to disappear from BMW’s online configurator by the end of the year.

The M8 Coupe, part of the broader 8-Series family, has recently seen modest sales. BMW reported selling just over 4,000 units across the 8-Series lineup in the U.S. during the first nine months of this year—a decline from the same period last year. While exact figures for the M8 Coupe are not disclosed, it has undoubtedly faced stiff competition and changing consumer preferences.
The M8 Coupe’s performance legacy is not to be understated. With its twin-turbocharged 4.4-litre V8 engine delivering 617 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque, the car showcased BMW’s engineering prowess. Its combination of an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive allowed it to achieve remarkable speeds, reaching 0-60 mph in just three seconds and boasting a top speed of 190 mph with specific packages.
As the curtain closes on the M8 Coupe, BMW enthusiasts may look back on it as a testament to the brand’s commitment to blending luxury with exhilarating performance. The automotive landscape is shifting, and while this chapter ends, BMW’s innovation ensures there are new stories yet to be written.
