[Video] Road&Track Team Tests the BMW M8 Competition

For this year’s Performance Car of the Year by Road & Track, the BMW M8 Competition joins the prestigious list. Accordingly, the proceedings witness the ace performance of this M8. Although the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 beats it on track, it still is the fastest car for today’s BMW portfolio. And we are fortunate enough to witness how the BMW M8 performs in the said proceedings. The Road&Track team gives us a glimpse of that in their recent video footage.

Before you watch it on their website, you should know that this project shows off a more unique approach. It did not run in a more commonly used uphill location. Instead, the BMW M8 performs at an unrestricted chicane at Lime Rock. The team from Road&Track mentions that this was vital to provide safety. Also, they also aim for a slightly more technical layout. For powerful and heavy cars, this can possibly be an issue.

The Road&Track estimation for the new layout shows a lap time of two to three seconds. This estimation is slower when compared to a normal layout. Indeed, the BMW M8 does not disappoint with its performance. Despite its heavy body, this GT car impresses everyone on track. At 1:02.06, the fastest run of the M8 is impressive. However, the driver also believes that it can deliver better performance if a different rubber was used. When it comes to heavy cars such as the BMW M8, tires should be carefully considered. And the Pirelli P Zero tires on this M8 appears to have given their limits.

For some, the BMW M8 feels slightly disconnected. It gives that much isolation from what is happening mechanically. However, this is an intentional outcome as customers want this carto perform like it. Nevertheless, the BMW M8 surely can impress with its race track capabilities.
