The BMW M8 Competition Coupe was a highlight on a BMW podcast episode with Joe Achilles. While inside the beast coupe, he talked about how he did several thrilling laps while different passengers rode beside him. The video below shows a collection of those intense moments on the race track.
Together with Want2Race, a company that provides track-day packages for car fanatics, Joe Achilles went to Silverstone with his companion. He brought with him a press loaner BMW M8 Competition Coupe from BMW UK. With the car, Achilles looked as if he will toss it all day around the race track. One enthusiast mentioned how he rode the car before on the track and felt bad for its brakes and tires. Accordingly, the M8 is still a massive and heavy thing even though it will greatly impress you as you ride it.
As a matter of fact, Joe Achilles even confessed on the video that before showing any sign of overheating, the M8’s tires and brakes would only last a few laps at a time. It was already a predictable case for the car. It’s because the majority of its components are too weighty to manage a continuous use in the track.
However, the BMW M8 engine can be capable of managing a continuous use in the track. The heavy car can be fired down the main track directly as if it was fired from a cannon. This became possible because of its 4.4 liter twin-turbocharged V8 that generates 625 horsepower. The engine never complained even though Achilles was able to hit 150 mph. This can be seen in the video where Achilles did it on the main straight and for several laps. Pulling a massive metal on a track and with that kind of speed on a hot dat, and for a couple of times, can definitely overwhelm even the grand engines. This, however, does not go the same with the finest 4.4 liter S63 of BMW.
The BMW M8 Competition is also a GT Car, which makes it even more first-rate. Therefore, if you will drive this home, you will have the most comfortable, relaxing and quiet ride. Unless you would want to drive it the way Achilles did…
