BMW’s latest M5 generation has hit the streets with a surprise turning heads—the brand-new M5 Touring wagon, available in North America for the first time. Enthusiasm among customers has exceeded expectations, leading to an even split in orders between the classic sedan and the stylish new wagon.

Initially, BMW forecasted a majority preference for the sedan, but recent figures reveal that the wagon’s popularity matches its sedan counterpart’s. Impressively, the rising demand for the wagon isn’t detracting from sedan sales; orders for both versions surpass early predictions. Sylvia Neubauer, BMW’s VP of Customer, Brand, and Sales, noted that although production was increased for both models, the Touring wagon received a significantly larger boost to match consumer interest.

The excitement surrounding the 2025 M5 is justified by its powerhouse performance features. Equipped with a robust 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 plug-in hybrid system, the M5 delivers a staggering 717 horsepower and 738 lb-ft of torque. Performance is electrifying, with acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h achievable in just 3.5 seconds, complemented by an all-electric range of up to 43 km.
This overwhelming reception for the M5 Touring could signal more good news for North American fans of BMW’s high-performance wagons. BMW executives previously hinted that strong sales for the M5 Touring might influence decisions about bringing future wagon models across the Atlantic, like the coveted M3 Touring.
While sustained demand will ultimately dictate the future of these sporty wagons, buyers’ current enthusiasm highlights a clear and growing appetite for high-performance estate vehicles in the region. As the brand adapts swiftly to this emerging trend, BMW enthusiasts have plenty to celebrate.
