2024 BMW XM Label Red: A New Era of Bimmer Performance

BMW’s preparation to launch the Label Red edition of the XM plug-in hybrid SUV was hardly a secret. Since the standard XM’s debut, we’ve anticipated a more powerful version, surpassing the XM’s 644 horsepower. Now, the 2024 BMW XM Label Red is here, boasting a record-breaking 738 horsepower as the most powerful production BMW to date.

Buyers can expect to receive their powerful BMW XM Label Reds by year-end, with production starting in August at the Spartanburg, South Carolina factory. The model will offer enhanced performance, new colours, and a slightly updated appearance. However, the major highlight is undoubtedly its impressive power.

The BMW XM Label Red shares its powertrain with the standard XM, utilizing a 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged “S68” V8 and battery/electric motor hybrid system. However, BMW M ramped up the power, producing an impressive 738 horsepower and 738 lb-ft of torque. This marks an increase of 94 horsepower and 148 lb-ft compared to the regular model.

BMW M hasn’t revealed the XM Label Red’s curb weight, but the standard XM weighs 6,062 lbs. The weight difference should be minimal with the same electric motor, battery, and engine. Unique Label Red aesthetics might cause slight weight variations but are likely insignificant.

The extra power matters. The XM Label Red reaches 0 to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds, faster than the standard model’s 4.1 seconds. Despite being the quickest BMW ever, it doesn’t outpace the BMW X5 M or X6 M, making it one of the slower M cars to hit 60 mph. Three-ton curb weight has its limits. The standard top speed is 155 mph, but with the M Driver’s package, it jumps to 175 mph.

BMW M hasn’t officially made the XM Label Red’s price official, but it has already hinted that it will start at $185,995 in the United States. So when BMW ultimately reveals the final pricing, anticipate it to be close to that. Pricing shouldn’t be too long away because production will begin in August. The additional power and red trim will cost around $26,000 more than the basic XM if the price stays at $185,995.

Even more than the Lamborghini Urus and Aston Martin DBX 707 for about $50,000 less, the BMW XM Label Red produces much more power than every other enormous SUV. On paper, the huge BMW isn’t even any faster than the X5 M Competition, and the Urus and DBX 707 would destroy the XM Label Red in a straight line. It will be intriguing to see who the XM Label Red is for and who purchases it.
