BMW XM Label Red Awaits 2023’s Quickest MotoGP Qualifier

BMW seems to have reconsidered, as the M2 G87 no longer claims the M Award for 2023’s quickest MotoGP qualifier. Instead, the XM replaces the Zandvoort Blue, a second-generation sports coupe initially revealed as the prize in November 2022. Celebrating its 25th season, BMW M is the “Official Car of MotoGP.” At season’s end, they’ll present a brand-new car as an award.

The specific XM is the Label Red edition, not the standard model. Set to premiere at Auto Shanghai 2023; this plug-in hybrid SUV is BMW’s most powerful production car yet. It boasts a Frozen Carbon Black metallic paint from the Individual catalogue, paired with red accents exclusive to the top-tier model. This finish will feature a limited run of 500 XM Label Red special edition units.

Established in 2003, the BMW M Award is presented annually. Marc Márquez impressively secured it seven times consecutively between 2013 and 2019. Last year, Francesco Bagnaia won, taking home a Frozen Gold and Frozen Black M3 Touring G81 with 1000 M wheels. Riders earn points during each qualifying session when a race occurs, following the same scoring system as the races. The rider with the most points at the season’s end claims the coveted BMW M Award.

It’ll be captivating to see which car will take the M Award next year. A potential contender could be another M4 CS if BMW produces it. Alternatively, the M2 might be in the running as well.
