[Video] BMW M1 Restoration Story, Told in Photos

This particular restoration story started way back in 2006 when the WerkShop started their BMW M1 project. This was not as easy task – given that the M1 they had was not in good shape. Almost all major components needed to be replaced. It was definitely a massive project in terms of both cost and effort. Check out the photos they took while documenting the restoration story:

The process started by stripping down the entire car. The engine, transmission and subframes were taken out and rebuilt. The suspension could no longer be repaired so it was replaced by a new one. For all the other parts to be restored back to its former glory, they had to be either fixed, replaced, or repainted.

The interior was restored by stripping it down to bare metal and apply body fixes. Then the bare body was painted with a grey shade that appears to have a candy shell finish. The entire cabin was also redone, with the seats reupholstered and cleaned. The look was so simple and vintage.

It took two years before the project was done but the transformation was very impressive. The result was fantastic, especially the underbody. It started out looking like there was no hope but in the end, the BMW M1 was transported back to 1979, just like how it rolled off from the showroom!
