The Chevy Camaro has been getting pretty good reviews lately. So can it go against a proper BMW M car, particularly the M2? The video below shows Motor Trend comparing the Camaro V6 1LE and the BMW M2.
The Chevy Camaro has a good game going for it. The 1LE package for the V6 gives it better brakes, sportier suspension, much stickier tires and a loud exhaust button. With a 3.6 liter naturally-aspirated V6, the Camaro 1LE makes 335 hp and 284 lb-ft of torque. With a six-speed manual, it can get from 0-60 mph in 5.0 seconds. That’s pretty damn good for $38,000.
The BMW M2 is powered by a 3.0 liter turbocharged I6 engine that makes 365 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque on overboost. It has more power than the Camaro. This M car can also get from 0-60 mph in around 4.2 seconds. This advantage comes with a price tag, of course. The BMW M2 is significantly costlier than a Camaro, you can even buy a Rolex with what you’ll save.
In the end, the Camaro V6 1LE’s performance does show why it costs less. One of its flaws is being massive, but it feels cramped from the inside so it is quite hard to drive. The Camaro’s V6 needs its nuts revved off before it makes its power and the M2 is a lot easier to get there. The BMW M2 is such an easy car to slide that makes it tough to beat.
The BMW M2 does cost a bit more but it beat the Camaro on the track quite easily.
