Want to know what would happen if the BMW M2 was pushed as hard as possible on the track? Here goes the current favourite supercar clocking in 7:22 on Nurburgring’s BTG section:
The man behind the wheel is Lucian Gavris from Luke Customs. He drove the manual BMW M2 in the hopes of finding out how fast it can go when taken to the limit. Gavris is an extremely skilled driver who spends a lot of time at the Nurburgring so he is the perfect person to stretch the car to wits end. He knows the twists and turns of the circuit and does not need adjusting to any elevation situation.
On paper, the BMW M2 is capable of 370 horsepower and up to 369 lb-ft (500 Nm) of torque. This is achieved through an overboost that balances the car and makes for a good lap time.
The end result is a surprising 7:22.6 lap time. This is 22 seconds faster than what Jamie Vandelbalck recorded when he drove the M2 on Bridge to Gantry. Interesting enough, this time is also almost 4 seconds faster than a 997 Porsche 911 GT3, when driven around the same BTG section of the Nurburgring. The 911 GT3 is mostly considered as a car to beat in the automotive world, the BM2 M2 can actually beat it.
