A BMW M2 GTS variant has not been confirmed but we have been seeing several prototypes being tested, including some high-speed laps at Nurburgring. This model, if it comes to fruition, will feature a different engine compared to the one in the regular M2.
The engine choice would likely be a variant of the S55 engine in the current BMW M3/M4 that will develop around 450 hp. Rumor has it that it will begin production in March 2019 with a limited run of around 1,000 units. Torque will likely be 406 lb-ft as in the M3/M4 but nothing has been confirmed yet.
The current BMW M2 has a 365 hp N55 engine with a DCT gearbox. The M4 Competition Package can get from 0-60 mph in around 3.8 seconds, whereas the M2 does the same spring in 4.0 seconds flat. If the engine will be replaced, the BMW M2 GTS will definitely punch a more powerful performance than the M4 Competition Package.
The interior is expected to have lightweight seats with a roll cage, M Performance Steering wheel with carbon fiber and alcantara, plus a center console and dashboard dressed up in carbon fiber as well.
With all of these considered, it is a pretty exciting car. This might just be BMW’s most exciting car since the E46 M3 CSL.
