Before the BMW M2, there was the 1M as the Ultimate Driving Machine. When the BMW 1 Series M Coupe came out to the market, it pleased the crowd. It was an instant classic and people loved almost every bit of it. Nobody ever thought it was possible to put all the features in one small packaging: suspension, wheels, and brakes from the huge M3 Competition Pack. It was never thought of until the 1M came to be. The car was mind-blowing in every sense of that word. The 1M appearance is definitely aggressive with a low and wide stance. It looked like a bad boy and who doesn’t want that?
That being said, there was much anxiety when the BMW M2 was released. It was the sequel to something great. Like how it is in the movies, there was tremendous pressure to beat the performance of its predecessor, or at least be at par with it. There were concerns that the BMW M2 would just be a marketing exercise – another strategy to position BMW as the best automaker in the world.
People wanted a real motorsport product from BMW. People craved ///M Power and wanted it to be seen and felt in the cars. Does the BMW M2 live up to that expectation? Here is a review by Jason Cammissa, Motor Trend’s Senior Editor. He has Randy Pobst in tow, the SCCA Hall of Fame inductee, to really push this car to its limits.
They bring the M2 in the back roads and along the Streets of Willow so it can prove that it is worthy to be a successor to the 1M that we loved. It goes through difficult, sweeping corners that reveal its true character. Like an initiation. Instead of going out scathed, it proves to be a very able and fun car to drive.
Past is past, they say. The BMW M2 is the present. Let us enjoy this Ultimate Driving Machine!
