BMW M3 xDrive vs Porsche 911 in Drag Race Comparison

When it comes to high-performance German cars, two names that often come to mind are the BMW M3 and Porsche 911. The M3 xDrive will be compared to a modified Porsche 911 in an epic drag race.

Both vehicles boast six-cylinder engines, turbochargers, all-wheel drive, and automatic transmissions. However, they’re not exactly direct competitors, as the M3 is a sedan with a front-mounted inline-six engine, while the Porsche is a coupe with a rear-mounted flat-six. The M3 Competition xDrive, modified by Manhart, produces 630 horsepower, while the Porsche 911 has been modified to extract 650 horsepower.

Despite having an extra 20 horsepower and being 100 kilograms lighter, the Porsche 911 was no match for the M3 in this drag race. In both duels, the M3 was faster off the line, reaching 0 to 62 mph in just over 3.1 seconds, while the 911 took 3.74 seconds in the first race and 3.5 seconds in the second. The M3 was also quicker from 62 to 124 mph, taking 8.35 seconds in the first race and 7.25 seconds in the second.

It’s clear that the all-wheel-drive M3 is a force to be reckoned with, especially when tuned. While it would have been interesting to see a rolling race with in-gear acceleration, this drag race proved that the M3 is a formidable opponent on the straightaway.
