The BMW Mexico plant held a ground-breaking event two weeks ago. This facility is worth $1 billion and BMW is investing heavily on this as it plays a big role in fulfilling the market demand. To exhibit the automaker’s commitment to sustainability, this plant will fully depend on renewable energy. Because of that, this will be BMW’s most efficient factory as of current.
The new plant is located in San Luis Potosi, central Mexico. One of the models that will be produced here is the next generation BMW 3 Series. The plant’s production capacity is up to 150,000 cars annually. All these operations will fully depend on both on wind and solar power.
To paint the cars, treated wastewater will be used. With a closed-circuit cooling tower in the body shop and zero process wastewater in the paint shop, the least amount of water will be needed in production compared to other BMW working plants.
“In 2019, Mexico will have the most sophisticated, sustainable and state-of-the-art plant at the BMW Group,†said group manufacturing boss Oliver Zipse. “Three years from now, hundreds of premium vehicles will be produced at this site every day.â€
The latest advancements in car manufacturing has been invested by BMW here and it was the first one to be built with digital 3D-scanning technology.
The production plant will create around 1,500 jobs in Mexico while employing 120 local suppliers.
