The momentum is set for the eight BMW drivers as they head to the Alps for the second DTM weekend of the 2016 season. The next two races for the team will be held in one of one of the most beautiful motorsport circuits: Spielberg (AT).
The 4.326-kilometre track is situated in Austria’s Styrian mountains. It is also known as the Red Bull Ring and is a favorite of most motorsport drivers because of its unique characteristics. It is the highest racetrack on the DTM calendar at around 700 metres above sea level. Mix that with
unusually large changes in elevation and gradients of up to 12 per cent, it always makes for a very exciting race.
The BMW Motorsport team is looking to replicate their performance in the beginning of the season in Hockenheim (DE). Augusto Farfus (BR) and Maxime Martin (BE) finished second and third and they are thirsty to add more victories.
In the third race of the VLN Endurance Racing Championship at the Nürburgring, three BMW DTM drivers reached the podium. Marco Wittmann (DE), Jörg Müller (DE) and BMW Motorsport Junior Jesse Krohn (FI) recorded the first big win for the new BMW M6 GT3. Martin Tomczyk (DE) in second place and Tom Blomqvist (GB) in third also finished in the top-3 at the dress rehearsal for the 24-hour race. It was a good run for BMW Motorsport.
The drivers are very excited about the race. Marco Wittmann (car number 11, BMW Team RMG) feels at home in Spielberg where he actually claimed his very first podium. Timo Glock (car number 16, BMW Team RMG) is inspired by the beauty of the racetrack where he also claimed his first podium in 2013. Drivers Bruno Spengler (car number 7, BMW Team MTEK), Augusto Farfus (car number 18, BMW Team MTEK), Tom Blomqvist (car number 31, BMW Team RBM), Maxime Martin (car number 36, BMW Team RBM), António Félix da Costa (car number 13, BMW Team Schnitzer), and Martin Tomczyk (car number 100, BMW Team Schnitzer) all consider this race as a highlight as they imagine all the possible driving conditions they will experience here.
