BMW CEO Harald Krueger spoke in a press conference today and discussed the automaker’s plans in relation to Brexit. He said that the company is not yet planning any significant changes in car sales and believes that it is too early to draw up any plans.
In the aftermath of Britain’s decision to leave the European Union, BMW is not worried yet as they foresee that the exit will take longer than expected. “It is too early to draw up Plan B, we need to await the outcome of negotiations,†Krueger said.
Both MINI and Rolls-Royce brands are based in the U.K. and these cars are largely manufactured there at the Oxford and Goodwood plants. The Hams Hall plant is also there and this is an engine plant. The engines built here are utilised for building many other models. These plants supply a lot of cars to meet BMW’s global demands and is integral to the company’s operations.
If the proposed Brexit referendum pushes through, there may be restrictions on freedom of travel, taxes, and trade that could significantly affect how BMW operates.
For now, BMW thinks that it is best to wait for more updates before they make changes in their U.K. operations.
