The BMW Group has an optimistic prediction that by 2025, electrified vehicles will account for 15-25% of their sales. They are working hard to achieve that goal. Right now, a big percent of their sales (especially in Europe) comes from the 3 Series Touring and the 5 Series Touring. However, they have recently announced that these two models won’t be electrified.
It’s still not clear if this applies to the current generation of the cars or the models in general. It’s surprising to hear this, as the Tourings are extremely popular and the technology is easily transferable. We’re yet to see how this will develop.
Over 10 plants around the world are currently producing BMW Group electrified models. The Bavarians have invested over 100 million euros in electro-mobility and they are not planning to stop anytime soon.
