At the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este in 2023, the BMW Group will introduce two other vehicles in addition to the i7 M70. One of them will be a “very special BMW M car”. The other will be an “elegantly sporty, one-off homage to motoring for two”. For now, all we can do is presume what we will witness between May 19 and 21.
Since the G87 is just now available, it is unlikely that the M vehicle will be connected to the M2. Because the CS was released not long ago, we could make the same claim about the M3. An M4 CS is possible, as is the present M5’s (wishful thinking) final outing. We don’t think anything will change anytime soon about the M8’s lack of attention. The Z4 M40i with a manual transmission is also gone because it isn’t a real M model.
The enigmatic M vehicle, though, might have already been partially unveiled. Considering that the XM Label Red will compete at Pikes Peak in late June, a formal debut would need to occur earlier. BMW has already made photographs and important technical details available. It will have 748 hp and 1,000 Nm (737 lb-ft) of torque. This makes it the most potent production vehicle the Munich-based manufacturer has ever produced.
The BMW XM Label Red will be in limited quantities worldwide, starting at $185,995 in the United States. According to rumours, fewer than 2,000 vehicles would be produced. It won’t bear the conventional Competition label except for having a small production run and receiving a unique paint job and interior finish. The start of the production is anticipated for late summer.
Your guess is as good as ours as to what the second car is. It may be a Rolls-Royce, a MINI, or a special invention from Motorrad since the press statement refers to the BMW Group rather than just BMW. Possibly the third and last Boat Tail? Whatever the case, “homage” indicates it’ll pay respect to a prior model, notably a two-seater, judging by the “motoring for two” descriptor.
