New BMW Vehicle Distribution Center Texas Opens

BMW opens a new vehicle distribution center at Port of Galvestion, Texas. This new facility was opened to meet the growing demands of BMW’s business. The facility will cater to the 45 dealerships and customers in Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, and Oklahoma. This region is currently experiencing rapid growth.

The new facility is expected to import around 32,500 vehicles every year. This is worth nearly $1.3 Billion in import value. Owned and operated by WWL VSA under BMW Group on-site management, the workforce is comprised of 40 people from the BMW Group and Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics (WWL). Shipments of cars are already coming in.

The processing space of the facility is a total of 44,000 square feet. It has two buildings sitting in roughly 20 acres of land. Performed there are processes such as vehicle inspection, accessory installation, car programming, car maintenance and storage.

Craig Westbrook, Vice President, Customer Experience, BMW of North America said in the opening ceremony that this facility was opened mainly to delight their customers. It will ensure that the supply of BMW and MINI vehicles are largely available in the region. Delivery times will be faster and customers will be better served by the dealerships.

Raymond Fitzgerald, President – Atlantic at Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics (WWL) says that they are very honored to be the logistic partner of BMW. This distribution facility is already the 63rd processing center under the global network of WWL. The company has made sure that this one is fully customized to the needs of BMW in terms of storage and technical services. Only the state-of-the-art equipment have been designed and outfitted to the facility.

Michael Mierzwa, Port of Galveston Port Director says that they are very happy to welcome BMW and Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics VSA. The presence of this vehicle processing center will be a big help to the economy of the Gulf region. It is in line with the economic goals of attracting more business in the area and ultimately, produce more jobs for the people residing there.

During the opening event, BMW displayed a number of cars and among those that stood out is the BMW X5. As a seal of partnership between BMW and the Port of Galveston, the automaker will be giving an X5 for the official port business of the port.
