All-electric iX and Top-Level Model to Proceed Production

The all-electric iX appears to be the most anticipated BMW model today. Definitely, enthusiasts’ target of a lot of design criticism is the BMW iX. However, That does not decrease the significance of the first true BMW, from the ground up BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle) since the i3. It will be a make or break moment for the company as the iX debuts. Tesla supporters claim that either it will show that BMW is as far behind or it will show that BMW has what it takes to take Tesla head-on. Regardless, to find out, we’re going to wait at least a year.

The BMW iX is currently expected to begin manufacturing in late 2021. We do not have any exact dates, but we expect production to start in November or December 2021. For the iX currently in production, there are a couple of different trim levels. Starting at the end of this year, the entry-level and mid-tier models will  go into production first. The top-level model production, possibly an M Performance model, won’t start until about Spring 2022.

The mid-tier model is the BMW iX that you’re probably expecting, the one that BMW gave specs for during its initial announcement. This iX will launch with two electric motors and a 100-ish kWh battery pack with about 500 horsepower. BMW iX could top out at a range of around 300 miles according to preliminary estimates. Therefore, putting the BMW iX in the same line as the Tesla Model X will create a Head to head competition in the segment.

BMW iX is to pack about 600 horsepower and we hear of the “iX M50” tag but no details about the upcoming M-tuned BMW iX. As we all know, BMW is qualified for such power. Almost 700 horsepower was put out by its Power BEV concept a few years back. Ultimately, BMW has the technology to create an electric crossover with high performance. Unfortunately, we will have to wait several months to see the M Performance model of iX. Nonetheless, we can say that it’s definitely worth the wait.

We are excited about the BMW iX despite the initial design backlash and the social media drama during its release. Excited to drive it and see if BMW could turn its ethos of “Ultimate Driving Machine” into a new EV.
