This year at The Amelia, BMW is making a bold statement with a lineup of old and new SUVs. Alongside the 2001 X5 Neiman Marcus Edition and the 2003 X5 4.6is Imola Red, the latest X models are on display, including the 2024 X5 xDrive50e. But the real standout is the 2024 X6. The X6 M60i features a sleek design and a powerful V8 gasoline engine, replacing the previous plug-in hybrid and inline-six powertrain.
The top-of-the-line X6 M features horizontal slats to mimic the new M2 and XM. Meanwhile, the X6 M60i retains the vertical kidney bars of its M50i predecessor and is painted Atlantis Blue Metallic. All X6 models have smaller headlamps with the Life Cycle Impulse. You can also buy the M Performance variant in the eye-catching Isle of Man Green metallic paint for the first time. The largest available wheels are those 22 inches with a bi-colour appearance. But you may also have wheels this size in a different style.
The X6 M60i also features a glossy black spoiler on the tailgate. This accentuates the fearsome quad exhaust tips and reveals the rear end’s formidable appearance. While BMW steadily moves away from laser technology, the front features smaller headlights that benefit from matrix LEDs. Sporting the Shadowline treatment, these fresh lights have arrow-shaped daytime running lights. It flanks a fully black grille proudly carrying an M emblem that wasn’t on the former M50i.
The M Lite model receives BMW’s new mild-hybrid “S68” engine with a recognizable twin-turbo, 4.4-litre V8 arrangement. This set-up is similar to the full-fat X6 M Competition. Compared to the retired M50i model, output hasn’t altered. However, the electric motor should give a slight boost and somewhat increase efficiency.
The M60i currently starts at $93,600, so adding a few options will rapidly push the cost into the six figures, so be prepared to shell out some serious cash. You get a fair amount of standard kit, including adaptive M suspension, head-up display, rear-wheel steering, ventilated front seats, and other great features.
