BMW recalling 200,000 SUVs due to two issues

Autoblog reports that BMW is recalling over 200,000 SUVs due to two different reasons. Both reasons though have not caused any harm yet. It is more of just preventive measure. There will be 188,668 BMW X3s and X4s recalled, plus 21,493 units of X5s and X6s. Affected models are from year 2011 onwards. Even current models are affected.

A few days ago, a recall was announced due to the rear seat child seat anchors. The European ISOFIX connectors can damage the anchor bars and cause the child seat anchors to fail. BMW’s own quality control found this problem and there are no reported incidents related to this. It just proves that BMW doesn’t stop doing quality checks on their vehicles, even after they are released. A reinforcing bracket will be welded into the anchors by the dealerships as a solution.

This second recall was issued due to a problem with the universal joint of the front driveshaft for xDrive models. It was determined that water and debris can possibly make their way into the U-Joint and this may cause failure of the front driveshaft. Thankfully, there are no reported incidents related to this and this was discovered by BMW’s quality-control. For all the vehicles recalled, replacement front driveshafts will be installed as a solution.

The recalling will start in July and there will be no charges shouldered by the customer. The dealerships will take care of the issue and make sure that no car is in the risk of danger.
