BMW’s latest concept, the BMW X7 Nishiki Lounge, merges automotive luxury with celestial-inspired Japanese craftsmanship. Designed as a serene sanctuary, the vehicle reimagines the luxury SUV as a cosmic escape, blending traditional artistry with cutting-edge technology. Collaborating with renowned Japanese artisans, BMW transforms the X7 into a rolling gallery of starry motifs and meticulous detail.
The exterior captivates with a two-tone finish: a deep Velvet Blue base contrasts with a Space Silver upper section, evoking the shimmer of distant galaxies. Crystal Light headlights and an illuminated Iconic Glow grille amplify its ethereal presence, while sleek lines and bold proportions maintain the X7’s commanding stance. Every curve and surface reflects light like a celestial canvas, creating a dynamic interplay of shadows and brilliance.
Inside, the cabin immerses occupants in a constellation of bespoke details. Tokyo-based Rakugei Kobo crafted foil trim using a specialized lacquer technique, producing a starry night texture that shifts in colour under ambient lighting. The centre console, wrapped in gradient leather and iridescent kuska fabric, tapers elegantly toward the dashboard, mimicking the starlight fades. Floor mats by Kawashima Selkon feature intricate ikat-dyed patterns depicting the cosmos, adding depth to the interstellar theme.
Advanced tech enhances the experience: a Panoramic Sky Roof embedded with 15,000 LED lights mimics a twinkling night sky. At the same time, the Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System envelops passengers in concert-hall acoustics. Though BMW omitted performance specs, the concept likely shares the X7 xDrive40d’s robust 3.0-litre diesel engine, balancing power with refined driving dynamics.
