The 2023 BMW X7 introduces a new Trailer Assist Mode that significantly helps you find the best parking spot for your car. In this case, the BMW X7 will take the wheel and control the trailer’s speed, braking, and direction. The towing capacity is 7,700 pounds for the new BMW X7.
The 2023 BMW X7’s new Trailer Assist Mode was demonstrated at a demo in Spartanburg, South Carolina, at the BMW Performance Center. The functionality was demonstrated by towing a small trailer behind a 2023 BMW X7 xDrive40i. The first step is to enable the Trailer Mode under the “Driving Settings – Driving Assistance” menu. Then, go to the menu and choose “Trailer.”
The car has to figure out what kind of trailer it is pulling. So, while the trailer detection is in progress, a quick drive in the BMW X7 is required. Once the X7 has identified the trailer you’re towing, you can begin reversing into the garage. However, once the X7 reaches 10 kilometres per hour (6 mph), the Trailer Assist system is disabled. Then, you can adjust the hitch’s incline via the touchscreen controls or the iDrive knob.
With no assistance, the BMW X7 will begin to back into a parking space or garage. No problem; the iDrive system can still be used to fine-tune the trailer’s steering angle. We take a detailed look at the new Trailer Assist Mode and demonstrate its features in action in the video below.
