Ahead of its expected reveal later this month, the 2025 BMW X3 mid-size SUV has been inadvertently unveiled through a leaked image circulating online, potentially indicating an Australian debut by the end of the year.
Published across social platforms, including Spain’s Cochespias, the leaked image showcases the X3 sporting a fresh design influenced by recent BMW models. Notably, the ‘E’- marked German license plate suggests a plug-in hybrid model with a unique grille design with vertical and diagonal lines. The SUV integrates modern elements such as dual L-shaped daytime running lights, revising BMW’s traditional headlight look alongside new flush door handles, sleek bodywork, and an illuminated grille frame.
Reports from BMWBlog suggest the official unveil is imminent, with production kicking off in August 2024. The X3 is expected to feature the enhanced ‘CLAR’ architecture, a revamped interior, and updated engine options, including petrol, diesel, and hybrid models. The interior promises advanced tech with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch touchscreen combined into a broad display. A minimalist centre console and a new gear selector highlight the cabin’s modern overhaul.
Following the initial rollout, an electric variant, the iX3, will be introduced. It will be based on BMW’s new electric-focused ‘Neue Klasse’ platform, reflecting the futuristic design ethos of the Neue Klasse X concept. The dimensions of the new X3, as shared by BimmerPost’s reliable insider ‘ynguldyn’, indicate slight increases in size compared to its predecessor. The upcoming model will also feature a refined naming scheme, notably renaming the M40i to M50 and reserving the ‘i’ suffix exclusively for electric variants.
The European market will see a range including the X3 20 and M50 petrol, 20d diesel, and 30e plug-in hybrid models, all equipped with standard all-wheel drive. Meanwhile, the U.S. lineup will feature the M50 and a new X3 30 petrol model. Anticipated for next year, a robust 40d diesel model will complement the lineup. Key features include an illuminated grille, a premium Harman Kardon sound system, and advanced driver aids like lane centring assist and adaptive cruise control.
