Official BMW Video Features the New 2023 Z4 Roadster

Since BMW wasn’t going to make significant changes to a premium product, it’s safe to say that everyone had reasonable expectations from the Z4’s Life Cycle Impulse. The elegant roadster receives minor visual updates with the 2023MY without switching to the iDrive 8. A brand-new official video highlights the M40i and walks us through the LCI-specific adjustments.

The Z4 in M Performance form comes in Thundernight Metallic, a brand-new shade joining Skyscraper Grey and Portimao Blue. It reveals its redesigned kidney grille with a new pattern giving it a sportier flair. The only difference is that you can now purchase those headlights with dark inner accents as part of its Shadowline treatment. BMW also made subtle changes to the front bumper to make room for the additional air intakes.

The new 19-inch alloy wheels with an M emblem and a V-spoke design are also black. Notably, the alloys lack the 50th M anniversary emblems in favour of standard centre caps. Many contend that the retro-inspired insignia would have improved the overall look of the Z4. However, the Toyota Supra’s soft-top sibling was already one of the most attractive BMWs money could buy. Therefore, the modest LCI doesn’t much alter the look, which is a good thing.

Our reliable sources in Munich have informed us that there will be a manual transmission for the six-cylinder edition of the Z4. Thus, this is not the final upgrade for the 2023 BMW Z4. In 2023, anticipate the three-pedal M40i, albeit it might only be on sale in a few markets. One of them is the United States. Meanwhile, the 6MT will be offered in the Netherlands after a recent blunder by BMW’s Dutch branch with its online configurator.

Given the market’s appetite for SUVs, BMW has sold over 55,000 units of the third-generation Z4 so far. It might not, however, be sufficient to support the creation of a new generation. According to speculation, Magna Steyr’s manufacturing in Graz, Austria, will cease operation in 2025 without a replacement.
