Retro Convertibles: BMW Z4 gets compared against its rivals

2009 may not be included in the retro era but knowing that it’s twelve years ago now makes me feel old and nostalgic. It’s still clear to my memory the excitement I felt seeing a friend who bought an all-new ’08 Audi A4. This is honestly taking me down to memory lane, aging me a bit. Anyhow, this car is still as good as I remember – let’s check it out! Car and Driver’s old video shows how the BMW Z4 sDrive35i takes on the Porsche Boxster, Audi TTS, and Corvette Convertible. In which you can take away these four superb drop-tops at an affordable price on the used market right now!

Retro Convertibles: BMW Z4 gets compared against its rivals

Actually, this reminds me of the second-gen BMW Z4 that gave stunning good looks and a brilliant engine. Despite the numb steering and soft suspension, which gave away its sports car greatness, it’s still a great cruiser to hop on. Paired with a six-speed manual, the Z4 sDrive28is came with a 3.0-liter twin-turbo straight-six, generating 300 horsepower. BMW NA’s last Z4 sDrive35is press car presented a killer orange paint and manual transmission. During that time, some people had the chance to drive it – concluding the driving experience fun despite obvious handling issues.

And that only proves to be right as the Z4 came in second place in Car &D river’s comparison, edging out Audi TTS and the V8-powered Corvette. Naturally, it lost against the Boxster as no convertible in its price can match the latter’s precision and fun. Yet, the BMW Z4 in its least fun generation was able to come close and that’s rather impressive.

This comparison test would be of great help if you’re looking for retro convertibles in the used market. It’s also entertaining to read what journalists first thought of those cars during their prime time in the market.
