BMW’s upcoming fully electric X1 and 5 Series

BMW has already confirmed the new electrified BMW 7 series as part of its next generation vehicles. Further, BMW announced that this will have plug-in hybrid models. And BMW unsurprisingly confirmed a fully electric model to go with the series. However, catching everyone’s interest once more, BMW mentioned more electric models to arrive. And this is in line with their new goal towards efficiency and sustainability. Interestingly, BMW reveals on fully electric X1 and 5 Series models.

Spectators already knew that BMW is targeting to have 25 EV models rolling on the streets by 2023. And aside from the expected models included such as the 7 series, BMW announced more to arrive. For example, BMW reveals fully electric X1 and 5 Series are under the Power of Choice strategy of BMW. This then means that BMW can now use any powertrain they wish to have.

Likewise, BMW has already produced both fully electric and plug in hybrid models. In addition, they also have both diesel and petrol engines. These are coupled with 48 volt technology. Significantly, BMW already added specific features on their plug-in hybrid models. For example, the EV mode will automatically turn on once the car comes into the city center. Nearly 80 cities in Europe are all ready for these cars to use the said feature. Further, BMW noted that this project will extend to more locations soon.

The main goal is to decrease the CO2 emissions of cars for at least 40 percent per kilometer. And the strategy is to expand e-mobility. BMW Group aims to have more than seven million EV on the streets. Likewise, two thirds of these EVs are fully-electric. In addition to these, BMW also plans to improve their Efficient Dynamics strategy. This is because some cars will still have internal combustion engines. In other words, they aim to reduce fuel consumption by designing more efficient cars. Surely, the 48 volt technology is part of the plan for CO2 reduction.
