Bruno Spengler Talks about Being Nervous Before the Race

Does a veteran racing driver ever get nervous before the first race? Well apparently they still do, admits Bruno Spengler (CA). He will be driving THE #7 BMW M4 DTM for the BMW Team MTEK together with other BMW drivers at this year’s DTM season.

In an interview with BMW, Bruno Spengler says that he is all warmed up for the upcoming DTM season. Thanks to the opportunity that he got to race since May in Sebring where he already got a podium finish driving the BMW M6 GTLM. Spengler was one of the first drivers to use this car in the track and he recalls it as an experience he is very proud of. This year, he was also able to race in Daytona.

Talking about switching from a DTM car to a GT car, he says that there is always something new to learn. The pressure of racing alone in DTM versus racing with another driver in an endurance GT race is still the same, he says. They still need to deliver and make sure that they do their best to drive the car and win. He says that the challenge is more of switching cars because DTM cars can be faster in the corners while in GT, it will be an entirely different weight to power balance. Training is the key to succeeding here and that is what he is doing with his team mates now, continuing his daily training routine from home.

Spengler admits that the nerves do not go away even after many professional races. He still gets nervous at the start of each season because you need to drive a new car and the track conditions are different each time. However, this is also the key to hustle and never relax – two important mind sets when winning races.

The new DTM season will start on May 7, 2016.
