Alpina is known for making BMW cars more luxurious and exciting than it already is. They have been in the business of improving BMWs for decades and the fans usually love what goes out of the company’s garage. One of the most popular cars in their line-up today is Alpina B7. The newest variant, Alpina B7 xDrive, is based on the new G11 BMW 7 Series. To date, it may just be the best Alpina offering yet.
The Alpina B7 is powered by a 4.4 liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine taken and tuned from the BMW 750i. Thanks to extensive engine improvements, new turbochargers, new intake, new exhaust, and new Mahle pistons, it delivers 600 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque. 0-60 mph is achieved in just 3.6 seconds – and for the record, that is three tenths faster than a BMW M4 Competition Package. Alpina also claims that the top speed is 205 mph. Mated to that engine is a tuned ZF-sourced eight-speed automatic. The car itself is programmed to be more aggressive and rear-biased.
To test is that is really the case, Car and Driver went and reviewed the new 2017 Alpina B7 xDrive in Germany. They took the car to some unrestricted parts of the Autobahn and pushed it beyond its boundaries. Unfortunately, they were only able to hit 198 mph. That’s just a little bit shy of what Alpina says it is capable of.
After all things considered in the review, Car and Driver says that the Alpina B7 xDrive offers one of the best combinations of unbelievable luxury with amazing power and performance. Top it all, the price is also quite decent. It is not exactly cheap but if we’re talking about value for money, it costs a lot cheaper than the other car options offering the same level of power and luxury in the market.
